So you’ve seen TikTok quickly become one of the most powerful and popular social media platforms, and now you’re wondering if you can use your TikToks to help you grow on Pinterest too, right?
It makes sense!
This post is going to break down everything you should know about posting TikToks on Pinterest.
Should you do it? Will it help you account grow? Are there any risks?

Can you post TikToks on Pinterest?
Short answer, yes, you can post TikToks on Pinterest. There are a few different ways you can do it, too.
It may seem like a really good idea! Plus, like many other platforms, Pinterest is definitely favoring short-form video content right now as seen through Video Pins and Idea Pins.
However, the real question is if you should be posting TikToks on Pinterest. Surprisingly, that answer isn’t as simple, and we’ll discuss that later in this post.
Should you post TikToks on Pinterest?
Here’s where it gets more complicated. There isn’t a clear yes or no answer to this.
Instead, I’m going to lay out what I know and what I’ve seen as a frequent Pinterest user so you can make the best decision for yourself and your business.
1. Weigh the risks
There are a few risks that come with posting TikToks on Pinterest.
- Copyright issues. If you choose to post TikToks on Pinterest, you have to be very careful with the audios. Pinterest may not have the rights to certain songs or audios that Pinterest does, and this can be a slippery slope legally.
- Pinterest does not like watermarks. Pinterest wants its users creating original content for Pinterest, not repurposing content from other platforms. In fact, Pinterest has directly said that watermarked content does not perform as well.
“Content that’s clearly watermarked or repurposed doesn’t perform well with people who are on Pinterest to look for new, original ideas. And, of course, only use content that you have permission to use.”
Pinterest even seems to limit the distribution of watermarked content. As a frequent Pinterest user, I can confidently say that I used to see tons of watermarked TikTok videos in my Pinterest feed, but now almost ALL of the videos I see do not have watermarks.
Pinterest took action on this when many users began complaining that they were seeing too many TikToks in their feed. They said that if they wanted to see TikToks, they’d go on TikTok. And since Pinterest wants to be a unique platform, they did not like this!
Similarly, Instagram itself has already some taken action on this matter on its own platform, and stated that its algorithm will aim to stop promoting Instagram Reels with a TikTok watermark (as you can read in this post).
There are ways to get rid of the watermarks on videos, which will be mentioned later in this post.
However, post at your own discretion! If Pinterest catches on that you’re posting TikTok videos (even if they’re unwatermarked) or you use non-copyrighted audio, this may get you and your account in trouble. So make sure you weigh the risks!
2. Consider your goals
Why are you using Pinterest? Are you using it as a marketing engine for products or to grow on platforms, or is your goal to grow an authentic audience on Pinterest and become more like a Pinterest influencer?
If you are using Pinterest to grow other social platforms, posting TikToks may might benefit you.
If you’re trying to become more like a Pinterest influencer and work with brands or make money on Pinterest, you may want to focus on original Pinterest content.
3. Pinterest Creator Fund and Pinterest Creator Rewards
Do you plan to join the Pinterest Creator Fund or Pinterest Creator Rewards? Both of these are programs from Pinterest that essentially pay Pinterest Creators.
However, in both of these programs, it’s important to Pinterest that you post authentic, original Pinterest content, meaning that it is not repurposed from other social platforms like TikTok or Instagram.
If you hope to ultimately apply for or participate in one or both of these programs, I would be extra cautious and avoid posting TikToks on Pinterest.
3. Is your content for the Pinterest audience?
Perhaps one of the most overlooked parts of all is that Pinterest has always said that its main goal is to inspire others. Pinterest wants to provide value to users and inspire them to take action.
On the other hand, platforms such as TikTok (and even Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts) were created mainly to entertain their users.
It’s also important to consider that a large portion of the Pinterest audience is young to middle aged women.
While Pinterest may creating more features that resembles other popular platforms, their goal remains different and sets them and their audience apart from other platforms.

How to post TikToks safely on Pinterest
Here are some tips that will help you to publish TikToks to your Pinterest in a safer way:
- Remove the TikTok watermark. You can use free websites like Media.io to help you download TikTok videos without watermarks!
- Do not save TikToks directly from Pinterest. Download the TikTok and publish it separately. This way, you can link to wherever you want (like your website) and include keywords to optimize it for Pinterest SEO. Otherwise, your pin will likely link to that TikTok. Historically, when a pin links to another social media (like Instagram), Pinterest seems to limit its distribution.
- Be careful with your audio. Pinterest may not have the same rights to music and audios that platforms like TikTok do. Be careful with your audios! In some cases, it may be better to remove the audio and add your own voiceover, which you can do on Idea Pins!
Please note: While this method may be “safer” than others, it does not guarantee that Pinterest will not recognize that your content originates from TikTok and potentially negatively affect your account. Many users have very successfully used methods like this, but still, do this at your own discretion!
An alternative to posting TikToks on Pinterest
If you’re feeling uneasy about posting TikToks on Pinterest, here’s an alternative you could try:
When you create a TikTok, go on Pinterest and also create an Idea Pin or Video Pin, repurposing the content idea. Or, take your videos on your camera roll vs. the TikTok app so you can just re-use them on other platforms without watermarks!
For example, if you film a hair tutorial on TikTok, film that same hair tutorial separately on Pinterest! That way you have two different videos, but you use the same content idea and can (hopefully) create them quickly.
Can some TikToks still perform well?
TikToks can perform really well on Pinterest if the right measures are taken (such as removing watermarks).
Some users have grown their Pinterest following drastically by repurposing TikToks, which helps them to grow their brand and grow on other platforms. So, it can be a really smart business move, but you need to factor in the potential risks.
But sometimes…it depends!
As mentioned above, Pinterest and TikTok have two different audiences and goals. While TikTok is used moreso to entertain, Pinterest is used moreso to inspire. But, there is definitely an overlap! (For example, a hair tutorial could likely do well on TikTok AND Pinterest.)
Ultimately, the choice is yours as to whether or not you want to post TikToks on Pinterest.
